important questions with the new f20 bmw interfaces.

Postby romano » 20 Jul 2012, 08:53

I have some important questions with the new f20 bmw interfaces.

How can we activate interface from menu buttons or idrive?
We could not do as from our previous experiences.

We made it through the external button only.

The interface did not work for my new 1 BMW like in my Z4, I see bmw menu or interface screen!
There is no combination view!
I can not divide screen in two and place interface input left or right of the screen like my Z4. It is smilar interface from you.

I need one side Navi - other side interface for example.

The other point:

When I select R reverse gear the interface screen remains and dont switch to rear camera.

I first tried on my car but I cant do a demo like this,

Looking forward for your kind help asap!

Dear Romano,

You can find answers to your questions in the manual for BMW video interface.

Namely:

1. How can we activate interface from menu buttons or idrive?

Page 11 of the manual

When I select R reverse gear the interface screen remains and dont switch to rear camera.

Page 14 of the manual

If you still have questions after reading the manual, please, do not hesitate to ask.

When I select the R gear there is original reverse camera of BMW.
Should it activate automaticly ?
Or each time i must activate it separately.

Hello!

In case you have OEM rear view camera installed in your car, you should set up DIP switches on the video interface correspondingly. In your case DIP s/w #7 shall be set in OFF position if you want your OEM rear view camera to turn on automatically.

Hello,

I followed the instructions the result is the same.
Please one more tell me exactly the steps to follow briefly before I decide the interface has a problem.
Please tell these very clear like we are very very novice.

I use the same kind of interface on a BMW Z4 E89. we did many other installations. Basicly we are experienced.
What is the diffrece of F20 interfaces?

What I look for:
Activation through Menu buttons
picture in picture mode left right or complete.
Reverse camera activation when gear R selected. switch#7

At the moment:
I activate with the external button.
no PIP mode, this doesnt work. I got complete BMW screen or interface screen.
Reverse gear dont make the screen to return to BMW screen like in E89 Z4.

Qustions:
Does the external button and activation through menu buttons work together?
While external button active PIP and R-Cam works like - Menu buttons activation?

To setup the menu I use the remote control.

These F20 interfaces are a kind of new generation or same like the E89?

looking forward your help Asap !!!

Hello!

In order to activate rear view camera you should choose “activation o wires” in the menu and actually connect wire from rear lamp +12 V to REAR wire of the video interface.

These F20 interfaces are a kind of new generation or same like the E89?

Yes, car video interfaces for F20 are a new generation interfaces and they are not compatible with E89.

Does the external button and activation through menu buttons work together?

Yes.

While external button active PIP and R-Cam works like - Menu buttons activation?

PIP activation is performed by the button on the steering wheel (page 15 of the manual). This function works only for rear view camera.
Also you need to set the monitor size in the video interface menu and by DIP switches (pages 8,9 of the manual)

in other words,
You can splitt 8.8" BMW screen in two pieces.
when you activate video interface from Menu button, you have three options with the E89.
You see video interface input on the left side of splitted screen and the right side you can choose org. navigation or board computer etc.

2nd option you can press the button on streering and choose right small side of the splitted screen for video interface.
3rd option you can use full screen for Video interface.

For example I need:
Right side: Video interface
Left side: BMW Navigation.

is this the same with F20?

In old cars there was such function. Frankly speaking we do not know if new cars have this function. If yes - than this should work.
Read the manual for your car. These functions do not refer to the video interface, but to the car itself.

F20 also splits screen in two like E89. they look the same.
So it depends on Video interface to work combined or not.

what I have at the moment.
I can not activate from MENU - IDRIVE
I can not use combined screen with interface and BMW. either BMW or interface.
I can not swtich to original R-Cam, when gear is R.

I ordered a new interface, I would appreciate if you can experience and share your thoughts, maybe from other customers.
